Chapter 18: The Alpha King Returns
The victory lasted only one night.
At dawn, a messenger arrived.
“The Alpha King is alive.”
Kael stood immediately.
“Where?”
“The southern fortress.”
My mother looked worried.
“He has the final piece.”
“What piece?”
“The Crown of Shadows.”
I frowned.
“What is that?”
“The object that allows the Shadow Wolf to exist outside a vessel.”
Kael’s expression hardened.
“If he gets it, he won’t need a host.”
“Then we destroy it.”
My mother shook her head.
“It can only be destroyed by the Black Moon heir.”
I sighed.
“Of course.”
Kael took my hand.
“Then we go.”
Damon stepped forward.
“I’m coming.”
Kael nodded.
Mira smiled.
“Then I suppose I’m coming too.”
My mother looked at us.
“I’ll stay.”
I frowned.
“Why?”
“Someone must protect the kingdom.”
I hugged her.
“I’ll come back.”
She whispered:
“I know.”
We rode south.
The final fortress waited.
