Chapter 23: The Truth About the Throne
After the war, the surviving Alphas gathered.
They expected me to claim the throne.
Instead, I stood before them and refused.
“I will not become another ruler.”
One Alpha frowned.
“Then who will lead?”
“The packs will.”
Silence.
“We create a council.”
Damon stepped forward.
“I support her.”
Mira smiled.
Kael stood beside me.
“My mate speaks for the Black Moon.”
I looked at him.
“Your mate?”
He smiled.
“If you don’t mind.”
I laughed.
“I don’t.”
The wolves cheered.
For the first time, the title Luna didn’t feel like something given to me.
It felt like something I had earned.
But there was still one problem.
The Alpha King.
His body had been found near the ruins.
Alive.
Barely.
He was brought before me in chains.
He looked smaller than I remembered.
Powerless.
“You won.”
I looked at him.
“No.”
He frowned.
“Then who won?”
“The wolves.”
He laughed bitterly.
“You think freedom will last?”
I leaned closer.
“Not if we forget what you did.”
He looked at me.
“Will you kill me?”
I shook my head.
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because I don’t want your blood on my future.”
He stared at me.
For the first time…
He looked afraid.
Not of death.
Of being forgotten.
