Chapter 9: The Unexpected Storm

The morning sun filtered through the sheer curtains of Clara’s apartment, bringing a rare sense of peace. After the emotional confession and the

rain-soaked night, things between Ethan and Clara had transformed completely. The wall between the distant billionaire CEO and the independent

designer had finally crumbled.

When Clara arrived at Vance Global Headquarters that afternoon, the atmosphere in the building felt strangely charged. Employees were whispering

in hushed tones near the elevators, and the usual calm efficiency of the executive floor was replaced by tense commotion.

Clara walked toward Ethan’s corner office, holding two cups of fresh coffee. As she approached the glass door, she heard loud, angry voices

inside.

“You are risking the entire merger, Ethan! The board will not tolerate your personal distractions!”

It was an older man’s voice—authoritative, sharp, and commanding. Through the blinds, Clara saw a tall, silver-haired man in a bespoke three-piece

suit standing across from Ethan. It was Arthur Vance, Ethan’s father and the founder of the conglomerate.

“My personal life is not open for negotiation, Father,” Ethan’s voice rang out, steady and cold as ice. “The European campaign with Clara’s agency

is already generating record profits. I don’t need a forced marriage with Julianna to secure the company’s future.”

“You think this is about talent?” Arthur sneered, throwing a tabloid magazine onto the heavy mahogany desk. “Look at the morning headlines! ‘Vance

Empire’s Heir Favoring Unknown Designer Over European Heiress.’ The media is turning this into a scandal. Julianna’s father is threatening to pull

his funding unless you clarify your relationship publicly!”

Clara stood frozen outside, the paper coffee cups feeling hot against her trembling hands. She looked down at her tablet and quickly pulled up the

news. The front page of a major London entertainment portal had a blurry photograph of Ethan arriving at her apartment building late last night in

the pouring rain. The headline framed her as an ambitious social climber trying to trap the young CEO.

Before Clara could step back, the office door flew open. Arthur Vance walked out, his piercing grey eyes sweeping over Clara with cold disdain. He

didn’t say a word, but his dismissive look spoke volumes.

Ethan stood near his desk, looking exhausted, his tie slightly loosened. When he saw Clara standing in the doorway, his eyes filled with immediate

concern.

“Clara… how much of that did you hear?” Ethan asked softly, stepping around his desk.

Clara set the coffee cups on a side table, struggling to keep her voice steady. “Enough to know that my presence here is destroying what you’ve

built, Ethan.”

“Don’t say that,” Ethan insisted, taking a step toward her and reaching for her hands. “My father and the media don’t define us. I will handle the

board, and I will handle Julianna’s family.”

“And how will you handle the press?” Clara asked, looking up into his eyes, her heart aching. “My agency’s reputation is being dragged through the

mud. People are saying I only won this campaign because of… because of us.”

Ethan’s jaw tightened. “Anyone who knows your work knows that’s a lie.”

“In business, perception is everything, Ethan,” Clara whispered, stepping back from his reach. “I worked for years to build my credibility. I

won’t let it be turned into a cheap tabloid story.”
