Chapter 6: A Hidden Favor
Two days later, disaster struck Clara’s independent studio. A sudden power surge in her design office threatened to corrupt the primary servers
holding the master files for the entire European campaign.
By 7:00 PM, Clara was frantic, sitting in her small studio space outside the Vance headquarters, surrounded by flickering monitors and stressed
technicians. If those master renders were lost, months of work would vanish overnight.
Just as panic began to settle in, the studio door opened. Ethan walked in, accompanied by two senior IT specialists carrying heavy diagnostic
equipment.
“Ethan? What are you doing here?” Clara asked, startled as she stood up from her desk.
“Your assistant called my office asking if we had secondary backups,” Ethan said calmly, stepping around a tangle of cables. “I decided it was
faster to bring my core IT team directly to you.”
For the next three hours, Ethan didn’t act like a billionaire CEO. He took off his suit jacket, rolled up his shirt sleeves, and helped clear
space, moving heavy equipment alongside his tech team. Clara watched him in awe. The man who usually commanded boardrooms was now getting his
hands dirty to save her project.
By midnight, the server lights turned back from amber to a steady green. The files were completely restored.
“All data is safe, Mr. Vance,” the lead technician announced, packing up his tools.
Clara let out a massive sigh of relief, sinking into her chair. Ethan walked over, holding two cold bottles of water he had retrieved from the
breakroom. He handed one to her.
“Thank you, Ethan,” Clara said softly, looking up at him with genuine gratitude. “You didn’t have to do this. This was my team’s technical error.”
Ethan leaned against the desk beside her, taking a slow sip of water. “Your success is my success, Clara. And besides…” He looked down at her,
his voice dropping to a low, quiet tone. “I couldn’t let anything ruin the work you put your heart into.”
Clara’s heart skipped a beat. The quiet room suddenly felt full of unspoken words.
