The double mahogany doors of the main boardroom opened, revealing twenty senior board members seated around a massive oval table. At the head of

the table sat Arthur Vance, looking cold, formidable, and entirely unimpressed. To his right sat Julianna DuPont and her father, Henri DuPont,

their expressions rigid with quiet anger.

“You’re late, Ethan,” Arthur said, his deep voice carrying an icy authority that made the room fall silent. His gaze immediately dropped to Clara,

who stood beside Ethan. “And I don’t recall inviting external contractors to a closed board evaluation.”

“Clara Montgomery is the Lead Creative Director of our flagship European campaign, Father,” Ethan countered smoothly, stepping toward the center

of the room with an unwavering posture. “Her work is the primary reason our valuation increased by 14% this quarter. She has every right to be

here.”

Henri DuPont cleared his throat loudly, leaning forward. “That may be true, young man, but personal entanglements damage corporate stability. Our

group offered a 500-million-Euro investment on the condition of a unified alliance between our families. You’ve humiliated my daughter across

European tabloids for a designer with no pedigree.”

Julianna looked at Ethan, her eyes sharp. “You chose a nobody over an empire, Ethan.”

Clara stepped forward before Ethan could answer. She opened her leather portfolio case, placing a thick stack of verified financial documents and

signed intent forms directly onto the center table.

“With all due respect, Mr. DuPont, art and strategy aren’t defined by pedigree,” Clara said, her voice resonant and clear across the silent room.

“While you were relying on traditional family alliances, Vance Global’s new campaign attracted three of the largest independent luxury

conglomerates in Scandinavia and North America. They have signed non-binding agreements to invest over 700 million Euros—exclusively tied to the

current creative leadership under Ethan Vance.”

Gasps echoed through the boardroom. Senior board members immediately began flipping through the documents Clara had provided, their murmurs

growing louder with excitement.

Arthur’s face turned pale as he scanned the numbers. He looked up at Clara, realizing for the first time that she wasn’t just a quiet artist—she

was a formidable strategic mind.

Henri DuPont stood up abruptly, his chair scraping against the hardwood floor. “This is absurd! You are choosing unproven foreign capital over our

established partnership?”

“I am choosing progress over coercion,” Ethan said, stepping up beside Clara and looking directly at his father. “The board will now vote. If you

believe my leadership and Clara’s vision have brought value to this firm, vote to retain me. If you prefer old alliances over record-breaking

growth, vote me out.”

One by one, the board members began raising their hands in favor of Ethan. Within moments, a clear majority filled the room. Even Arthur, seeing

the overwhelming tide, remained silent, unable to stop the outcome.

Julianna stood up, gathering her purse with a cold, sharp glare at Clara. “You may have won the board today, Ethan… but shadows from the past

have a habit of catching up when you least expect them.”

With those cryptic words, Julianna and her father walked out of the boardroom, leaving a heavy silence in their wake.

That evening, after the chaotic day had finally ended, Ethan and Clara sat together on the sofa in Ethan’s private penthouse overlooking the

glowing lights of the London Eye.

Ethan leaned back, closing his eyes as Clara poured two glasses of red wine. He pulled her close, resting his forehead against hers.

“We did it,” Clara whispered, feeling the tension slowly leave his body.

“You did it,” Ethan corrected softly, looking deeply into her eyes. “You fought for me when even my own family turned against me.”

“I fought for us,” Clara corrected with a gentle smile. But as she rested her head against his chest, Julianna’s parting words lingered ominously

in her mind: Shadows from the past have a habit of catching u
