Chapter 13: A Quiet Confession

The morning after the intense board meeting, London seemed quieter, as if the entire city was taking a deep breath alongside Ethan and Clara. Away

from the flashing cameras and corporate pressure, Ethan had cleared his entire schedule for the weekend—a gesture so unheard of for the workaholic

CEO that his executive assistant had double-checked the order in utter disbelief.

Ethan took Clara to his private estate in the Cotswolds, a beautiful countryside manor surrounded by rolling green hills, ancient oak trees, and a

tranquil lake. The house was a sanctuary built from warm stone and glass, far removed from the cold steel of Vance Global.

Late in the afternoon, as the golden autumn sun dipped low, lighting the sky in shades of amber and rose, Ethan and Clara walked along the wooden

pier by the lake. Clara wore an oversized cream sweater and fitted jeans, her hair blowing softly in the cool breeze.

“I haven’t been here in six years,” Ethan said quietly, his hands buried in his coat pockets as he looked at the clear water reflecting the sky.

“Why?” Clara asked softly, stepping closer to him.

“This place belonged to my mother,” Ethan confessed, his usual confident tone turning gentle and vulnerable. “After she passed away, my father

turned everything into a transaction—business, relationships, family. I locked this house up because I thought feelings were a liability in the

world I was raised to rule.”

Clara reached out, her fingers gently threading through his. “And now?”

Ethan stopped, turning to face her completely. The warmth in his deep blue eyes was so intense that Clara’s heart skipped a beat. He took both of

her hands, bringing them to his lips and pressing a soft kiss to her knuckles.

“Now, being with you makes me feel human again,” Ethan whispered, his voice thick with emotion. “Clara, I spent years protecting my heart behind

walls of ice, believing that control was the only way to survive. But you broke through every single defense without even trying.”

Clara looked up into his eyes, tears of happiness welling in her own. “I didn’t want to break your walls, Ethan. I just wanted to see the man

behind them.”

Ethan gently cupped her face, his thumbs tracing her jawline with incredible tenderness. “I love you, Clara Montgomery. Not just as the brilliant

artist who saved my company, but as the woman who completed my life.”

Clara’s breath hitched. Hearing those words from Ethan—a man who had guarded his heart for so long—felt like the most precious gift in the world.

“I love you too, Ethan,” she whispered back, her voice trembling slightly. “With all my heart.”

Ethan leaned down, pulling her into a slow, passionate kiss under the golden autumn sky. The world around them faded into nothingness, leaving

only the warmth of their embrace and the unspoken promise of a shared future.
