Chapter 16: The Battle for Black Moon
The Shadow Army attacked at sunset.
Thousands of possessed wolves flooded the valley.
The sky turned black.
Kael commanded the center.
Damon took the eastern flank.
Mira protected the civilians.
My mother stood beside the healers.
I climbed the central tower.
From there, I could see everything.
The Black Moon wolves fought desperately.
But the enemy kept coming.
Every wolf they killed seemed to become two more.
The Shadow Wolf was spreading.
I closed my eyes.
I reached out with my power.
I could feel every wolf.
Every fear.
Every heartbeat.
Then I heard them.
Thousands of voices.
Queen.
I opened my eyes.
Silver light spread across the battlefield.
Every Black Moon wolf became stronger.
Their eyes turned silver.
The possessed wolves hesitated.
Kael looked toward me.
Our eyes met.
He shifted.
His black wolf became surrounded by silver flames.
He attacked.
The battle turned.
Damon fought beside him.
For the first time, the former rivals fought as brothers.
Then the Shadow Wolf appeared.
It was enormous.
Much larger than before.
It looked directly at me.
Come.
I stepped forward.
Kael appeared beside me.
“No.”
I looked at him.
“I have to.”
“We face it together.”
The Shadow Wolf attacked.
Kael and Damon struck simultaneously.
The creature knocked them aside.
I raised my hands.
Fire.
Ice.
Silver energy.
All three powers united.
The Shadow Wolf screamed.
But it didn’t die.
Instead, it laughed.
You still don’t understand.
“What?”
I don’t need to defeat you.
It looked at Kael.
I only need him.
Black smoke entered Kael’s body.
He collapsed.
“Kael!”
I ran toward him.
His eyes were turning black.
The Shadow Wolf had found its vessel.
